Class of 1970 - 40th Reunion October 2, 2010

Class of 1970 - On May 15, 2010 the 40-year alumni class started gathering at the Columbia Gorge SDA Church for church service and a wonderful potluck. We were surprised when Ron Turner met us there. The ladies of the church went overboard to make sure that there was enough good food for everyone. The group migrated to the picnic area at McMenamin’s where we had a wonderful afternoon of fellowship with others that arrived early for the main event. We were pleasantly surprised at the arrival of Gerry Miller and the Meske’s.  From the 94 classmates, about 47 arrived at the McMenamin’s Edgefield in Troutdale, OR for the dinner/reunion. A number of spouses, former faculty and members from other LA classes also journeyed to enjoy a festive evening of good food, laughter, sharing and remembrances. Led by the capable leadership of Art Klym and Leslie Jones-Webster, each classmate was presented with a personalized name tag, complete with their senior year class picture. One of the highlights was a slide show/power point presentation of classmates, then and now. It provided a lot of laughs. Leslie writes “I loved reconnecting with people from my past. High school was a major part of our education and upbringing, so spending time with this fabulous group of people from my past was very special for me. I was not alone in feeling the bond between class members that night, regardless of what our relationship at Laurelwood had been and regardless of who we are now, spiritually, economically or physically. Many folks from my class are now, once again, a wonderful part of my present.”  The class is looking forward to getting together again in the future. Thanks also to the army of capable volunteers that worked behind the scenes to make this a perfect evening.
